Solway Holiday Park

The staff are fantastic. The restaurant, arcade, park and pool are all 5 stars. The issue was the caravan(s). The first van we was given was horrendous. The staff were lovely and changed it without fuss but still the caravan we was given wasn't much better. The sofa did smell of wet dog and the radiators are full of rust. The door handles on internal doors are faulty. I don't think this is fault of the park or the staff. This is fault of people who go and are tramps/can't look after anything. I dread to think what their homes are like. I suggest this park take deposits or bill for damaged things in the caravans. Would also suggest caravans that are pet free and caravans that are allowed pets because I had a baby on the floor and the carpet dog smell was awful. I would highly praise the food and staff though. The camp could do with an indoor soft play for babies/young children and the shop needs a better selection of fresh food and toiletries.

Stayed bank holiday weekend, just me and two children (5 and 9). Stayed in a caravan. We did meet with friends who were staying in the touring part (which had great showers and toilet facilities). Caravan was spacious and had the usual utensils etc in, beds were really comfy. Bad points were a serious lack of plug sockets, really poor shower (not even remotely powerful), heating set on a timer so it was roasting when we got there and when we returned the next day from being out, also wasn't the cleanest. The site itself is small but really busy, the staff all super friendly and the entertainment was good. Didn't book any activities as found them to be over priced. The area was beautiful, very close to the sea front. There's a splash pad, play park and amusements within about 20 minutes walking distance. The amusements were very reasonably priced, rides £2.50 each and kids were allowed on for ages on trampoline and bouncy castle. Overall, a lovely weekend and would return.

We stayed on the touring area. Facilities are well looked after & modern. Great shower & toilet rooms. Food was good. Great little splash park & play area just up the road roughly 10 min walk & swimming pool on site. Really enjoyed our few days here

Staying on the touring site which is for us very good BUT, I wouldn't want to be on certain pitches if we had any serious rain, the signs are there that a lot of the pitches will be very wet indeed. Anyway, pitch 103 with our motorhome is perfect, loads of room, ehu, toilet and showers excellent. Site itself is a very nice holiday park with everything a family could need. Dog friendly bars and very happy staff! Outside the site Silloth has a fantastic promenade for a nice walk just a couple of minutes from the site entrance, not much in town so don't expect much nightlife in town. Overall very good site, touring pitches need a bit of attention but apart from that nothing to complain about.

We had a brilliant weekend at Solway! There was plenty to do both on and off the park. perfect for families or anyone looking for a relaxing break. We loved the lovely walk along the front with beautiful sunsets. The chalets were spacious, clean, and well-equipped and the hot tub was definitely a bonus. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We’ll definitely be back!

We have just returned from Solway. We stayed in a Chalet. (17) we were right by the main entrance. But we weren't disturbed by any noise. The Chalets are a lovely size and ours was cleaned and well maintained. The site itself was lovely, the service from the staff was friendly and helpful. There's a lot to do on site. We did the pottery painting (can just drop in and do this) we did swimming most days (just pop into the pool the day before to book an hour time slot) There is an arcade on site which has a fair few machines in. There's a restaurant which we didn't use, but did get some Pizzas which were lovely. As well as the fish ans chips (little pricey though!) Shop on site has a good variety. We went to the entertainment most nights, good variety for the kids and the staff running it tried their best to engage with the kids and make it a good evening for all. Drinks prices were reasonable! The nearby town had an amusement in it with a few little rides on the outside. There was a nice little bakery and a few other cafes but not much else. There was a little splash park by the amusements and a little park by the bowling club. But apart from that if you wanted to do anything then you'd have to head outside of the town. All in all though with the activities on site and the surrounding area we had a great time!

I had a great time at Solway, visiting with our dog. I do find the £15 per night charge to bring a pet quite steep, but the caravan itself was cheap. In all honesty we didn’t use any of the facilities as it was just a base for us to do some coastal hiking. The park is conveniently located for that with useful public transport options (a bus along the coast to Workington on one side, and a bus to Carlisle on the other). We arrived at check-in at 4pm and a queue was already forming. We were seen relatively quickly, however there wasn’t a key in our package. A facilities person quickly came round to sort out a new lock and key for us. The opening hours of the convenience store caught me out as it closes relatively early at 6pm most weekdays but I understand why since the park wasn’t so busy in our off-season visit. It was also a shame that none of the takeaways were open all week. We also had an issue with our boiler during the visit with no heating or gas one morning. We called the out of hours number (which was incorrect in the info booklet given to us - call the reception to be transferred) and received an assurance someone would come. An hour later we were still waiting so called reception when they opened. We had to leave in the meantime but the issue was fixed whilst we were away, although whoever fixed it left the heating on, meaning a very warm caravan when we came back six hours later. The caravan itself was pretty clean, although I was disappointed by the lack of some cooking utensils, like a measuring jug, a small sharp knife, or a second oven tray, but we made do. Also to mention is that we didn’t pay extra for linen but it was provided in any case. I think that might be a general rule, so I would avoid paying the extra fee.

A great place to stay for a short break. The accommodation has everything you'll need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. There are lots of on-site amenities, including a nice swimming pool. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. It's in a good location, on the Cumbria Solway Firth coast, with lots to explore nearby, and not far from the Lake District Fells, too.
